HEURISTIC METHODS IN THE PROBLEM OF THE DISTRIBUTION OF CHARGE ON THE CONDUCTING ELLIPSOID |

The classical solution of a task on distribution of electric charge on a surface of the lonely carrying-out ellipsoid in lack of external (third-party) electric fi eld is under construction by method of division of variables in Laplace’s equation in ellipsoidal system of coordinates. In the real work known heuristic methods of calculation of area density of electric charge on the carrying-out ellipsoid are proved and new heuristic methods are offered: a hypothesis of infl uence of curvature of a surface, a hypothesis of uniform distribution of electric charge on «space angle» (superficial coordinates of an ellipsoid) and a method of direct compensation of intensity of electric field in an ellipsoid. The problem of calculating the distribution of scalar potential and the electric fi eld is equated with the ellipsoid using the principle of superposition. The possibility of using Cartesian or spherical coordinates to describe the observation point is an ellipsoid instead of ellipsoidal coordinates greatly simplifi es the implementation of practical calculations. Similar results can be obtained for an oblate spheroid and a prolate spheroid.
