Analysis of the Morphology and Functional
Properties of Ag–C Composite Coatings Formed
by Electrovacuum Deposition on a Copper Substrate |
Romanov D.A., Vashchuk E.S., Pochetuha V.V.
In this work, coatings (C-Ag) were applied to a copper substrate using the method of electric
explosion spraying. The studies showed that the obtained coatings, with a thickness of 75 to
200 μm, have a pronounced surface roughness. The graphite in the coating consists of both platelike structures and submicron and nanometer-sized globular particles. Additionally, copper oxide
particles were found within the coating. A transition layer of a complex structure with a thickness of
100–150 nm is formed at the interface between the coating and the copper substrate. In this layer,
the silver has a lamellar structure, while the copper of the substrate has a sub-grain structure. The
hardness and Young's modulus of the "coating (Ag-C)/copper substrate" system increase as they
approach the interface between the coating and the substrate. The wear resistance of the coating
is 2,3 times higher than that of pure copper. The coefficient of friction between the coating and the
substrate is almost identical.
