On the Issue of Physical Modeling of Ice in the Problems
of Studying the Propagation of Sea Waves |

The methods of the ice cover physical modeling in the tasks of studying wave propagation in the ocean
are considered. The analysis of naturally occurring ice conditions is performed from the point of
view of describing the interaction of ice with sea waves. The methods of theoretical description of
these processes are given. A review of the methods of conducting experimental studies is carried out.
Two types of organization of experiments in model basins are distinguished: experiments using nonsimilar ice simulations and experiments with the creation of physical models similar to natural ice. The
conditions for modeling fi elds of ice fl oes and level ice are given. An overview of the physical models
of the ice cover used in the experimental basins of the NNSTU named after R.E. Alekseev in the study
of sea waves is made.
