Determination of Physical and Mechanical Propertiesof Various Ice Cover Models During Testing |

The model experiment in the experimental basin is actively used to predict the ice propulsion of ships.
An analysis of the accuracy of ice penetration forecasting methods shows that the development of
physical modeling of the interaction of ships with ice remains relevant. The physical modeling of
the ice resistance of ships in the experimental basins is associated with the creation of an ice cover
model. Various ice cover models used in open ice experiment basins to determine the ice resistance
of ships are shown. The fi xation of the physical and mechanical properties of ice cover models is
necessary when conducting model experiments. Methods for measuring the physical and mechanical
properties of ice cover models (thickness, density, elasticity, strength, deformation and destruction
of ice cover under load, friction of ice against the hull of the vessel) during the experiment are given.
The measured physical and mechanical properties of ice cover models, movement speed and ice
resistance are used to set up semi-empirical resistance models.
