Plasma Antenna With Adjustable Length |

Ensuring electromagnetic compatibility, controlling the radiation pattern, controlling the
effective dispersion area of antennas, etc. can be achieved by controlling the geometric
parameters of the antennas. This possibility arises if plasma is used as a current-carrying
element. A distinctive feature of plasma antennas is the ability to change the length of the
plasma region (plasma column) when the transmitter radiation power changes. If we imagine

the plasma region as a complex load of the generator-plasma antenna power line, then
by measuring the standing wave ratio (SWR) in the line, we can determine the radiation
resistance, losses and reactance and, accordingly, the plasma density (ne
) in the plasma
column. An estimate of the value (ne
) allows us to judge the possibility of using a plasma
column as a plasma antenna. The work examines the possibility of creating effi cient emitters
whose length can be controlled.
