SCIENTOMETRIC ANALYSES OF CANDIDATES NOMINATIONS FOR NOBEL PRIZES. NOMINEES AND NOMINATORS FOR THE NOBEL PRIZE IN PHYSICS (1901–1910)
V.M. TYUTYUNNIK, E.A. SILIVANETS

Scientometric analysis of the procedure for nominating candidates for the Nobel Prize in Physics for 1901–1910 in comparison with the nomination in chemistry and physiology or medicine conducted based on declassified documents of the Nobel Committee in Chemistry in Stockholm. It is shown that for the first 10 years representatives of 11 countries were nominated: France – 17 persons, Germany – 16 persons, UK – 11 persons; Sweden – 5 persons, USA – 5 persons, Netherlands – 4 persons, Italy – 2 persons, Austria – 2 persons, Russia – 1 person; Denmark – 1 person Poland (Russian Empire) – 1 person. Total nominated were 65 persons 414 times (on average, more than six nominations per scientist). The Nobel Prize in Physics received 14 scientists from six countries only: France – 4, Germany – 3, Netherlands – 3, Great Britain – 2, Italy – 1, USA – 1. The reasons for not awarding prizes to Russian physics were discussed. 319 nominators for the first decade have been established; it is shown detail who was nominated by each of the 14 winners of the first 10 years of the Nobel Prize in Physics. It was proved in the first decade that the most reliable nominators were the Nobel Prize Winners in Physics: 50% of the scientists nominated by them were awarded the Nobel Prizes in Physics or Chemistry. Such a result will not happen again in the future according to the data of the Nobel Committee in Chemistry until 1967. It showed who all Russian nominators were nominated.
Key words: Nobel Prize in Physics for 1901–1910, nominees, nominators, scientometric analysis.
