THERMODYNAMICS OF SURFACE MICROBUBBLE FORMATION |

The thermodynamic analysis of the formation of an equilibrium charged microbubble on a smooth hydrophobic surface of the water - solid interface with the capillary Kelvin formula is carried out. The critical radius of bubble formation does not depend on the characteristic contact angle between the liquid and solid phases. The surface charge density of bubbles necessary for mechanical equilibrium is determined. The critical radius is inversely proportional to the external pressure. It is shown that the most promising nanoscale bubbles for practical application are not formed on the smooth surface of the interface.
