THE IMPACT OF CHANGES IN THE SOLUBILITY OF CARBON DIOXIDE IN THE MAGNETIC FIELD ON SCALE FORMATION |
S.I. KOSHORIDZE, Yu.K. LEVIN
On the basis of thermodynamic calculation the well-known experimental fact is explained that after magnetic treatment of supersaturated aqueous solution of calcium carbonate crystals of aragonite rather than calcite begin to be generated. This effect is of great practical importance, since aragonite is much easier to remove from the walls of heat exchangers than calcite. In the calculations, the author relied on model experiments showing that the solubility of gases (and in particular carbon dioxide) in water increases with the growth of the magnetic field.
Key words: scale formation, solubility of carbon dioxide, magnetic treatment, calcite, aragonite.
