Engineering Physics Annotation << Back ABOUT IDEAL AND REAL STRENGTHOF SOLIDS M.E. KUSTOV, D.M. KUSTOV, V.A. ANTONOV The strength of solids due to the interaction forces between atoms or ions. When atoms approach of electromagnetic fi eld strength attract the atoms and repulsion forces arise that balance the attractive and repulsive forces. Theratio of attractive and repulsive forces determine the existence of a stable solid state and its mechanical characteristics, including durability solids. We obtain the formula strength of solids, depending on the density of atoms. Theoretical values ofthese quantities are confi rmed by the experimental values on a large array of solids.
