BINARY SYSTEM OF METRIC UNITS AND ITS JUSTIFICATION |
F.F. MENDE, A.S. DUBROVIN
Currently, the basic units of all metric systems are three units: mass, length and time. In 1965, an article by Oros di Bartini was published, in which a binary metric system was proposed, where the main were only two units: length and time. Such a proposal was based on the laws of mathematics, and had no physical basis. However, surprising was the fact that the physical constants calculated from this system coincided with enormous accuracy with their values, measured experimentally. It is still unclear whether there are any physical grounds for introducing such a metric system. In the present paper it is shown that if we introduce a binary metric system in which the basic units are mass and time, then the physical basis of this approach is the principle of equivalence of the gravitational and inertial masses.
Keywords: metric system of units, mass, length, time, principle of equivalence of gravitational and inertial mass.
