ON CHARGING PARTICLES OF DUSTY
PLASMA UNDER THE INFLUENCE
OF AN ELECTRON BEAM |

A model has been developed that describes the charging of dust particles under the infl
uence of beam electrons with a characteristic energy of about 25 keV. It turns out that
under the infl uence of a suffi ciently intense of beam electrons, dust particles in the plasma
can acquire an anomalously high charge. It is established that in addition to the current
of the electron beam, as well as the fl uxes of electrons and ions of the surrounding plasma
to the dust particle (described in the framework of the probe model), the current of fi eld emission is the most important current affecting the magnitude of the charge of a dust
particle. It is this current that signifi cantly reduces the magnitude of the negative charge on the dust particle. The established result is qualitatively confi rmed by the conducted
experiments on anomalously high charging of dust particles [1].
