RELAXATION OF VIBRATIONALLY EXCITED STATES AND INELASTIC INTERMOLECULAR EXCHANGE OF VIBRATIONAL QUANTA IN SOLID BINARY SYSTEMS |

The processes of molecular relaxation in solid binary systems «nitrate – perchlorate»
(LiNO3 – LiClO4, NaNO3 – NaClO4, KNO3 – KClO4), «carbonate – sulphate» (Li2CO3 –Li2SO4, Na2CO3 – Na2SO4, K2CO3 – K2SO4), « nitrate – nitrite» (NaNO3 – NaNO2 и KNO3– KNO2) were studied by Raman spectroscopy methods. It is found that the relaxation time of the vibrations v1(A) of anions CO32– and NO3– in the binary systems is less than in the individual crystal (nitrate or carbonate). It is shown that the increase in the relaxation rate is explained by the presence in the system of an additional relaxation mechanism for vibrationally excited states of the anion. This mechanism is associated with the excitation of the vibration of another anion (SO42–, NO2–, ClO4–) and the «birth» of the lattice phonon. It is established that the condition for the realization of such a relaxation mechanism is that the frequency difference of these oscillations must correspond to the region of a suffi ciently high density of states of the phonon spectrum.
