THE INFLUENCE OF THE SIZE DEPENDENCE OF SURFACE TENSION ON THE FORMATION OF A TAYLOR CONE FROM THE NANOCAPILLARY |
А.A. SOKUROV
In this paper we consider the size dependence of the surface tension of the meniscus of a liquid in a nanocapillary. On the basis of the analogue of the Gibbs-Tolman-Koenig-Buff differential equation it is shown that for not very small values of the radius of the capillary the Tolman formula holds for surface tension. Using the size dependence of the surface tension a condition in which a Taylor cone is formed in the nanocapillary is found; taking this dependence into account leads to a decrease of the critical strength of the electric field in which a cone is formed.
Key words: surface tension, size dependence, Taylor cone, nanocapillary, Tolman length.
