In this paper, we present our study on the spectral analysis of fresh leaves using lightinduced mid-IR emission spectroscopy (LIMIRES), which is a technique that utilizes the CW optical pumping in order to prepare and monitor vibrtaionally-excited states of chromophores. We show that by using a low intense visible light and a sensitive FT-IR technique, it is possible to obtain high-quality IR-emission spectra of intact leaves. By varying illumination condition we were able to carry out the spectral discrimination between leaf samples of wild-type and transgenica tobacco plants. Results show that LIMIRES is a valuable new technique for studying the vibrational structure of excited pigments as well as the non destructive monitoring of tobacco leaf quality.
