THE USING OF X-RAY PHOTOELECTRON SPECTROMETER TO RESEARCH METALLIC MELTS |

The paper presents the X-ray photoelectron spectrometer to study metal melts. The main difference of the new spectrometer is that the axis of symmetry of the focusing magnetic fi eld is in horizontal, but not vertical plane as in prior existing devices. This disposition of the spectrometer allowed testing target sample surface in a horizontal plane. It, in turn, made it possible to study of metal samples, both in solid and in liquid state for a long time within the same experiment. In addition, the examples of the XPS metal melts Fe78B13Si9 and Fe72Co8Si15B5 are presented. The jump-like changes in the composition of the surface layers are determined in the studied melts. It is interpreted as structural transformations within the liquid.
