Engineering Physics Annotation << Back COMPLEX APPLICATION OF LOWALTITUDE AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHY AND GEOPHYSICAL METHODS IN ARCHAEOLOGICAL RESEARCHES I.V. ZHURBIN, V.N. MILICH, A.I. NAZMUTDINOVA, R.P. PETROV, N.G. VOROBEVA The complex of diagnostic methods of soil surface layers structure allows to solve urgent problems of archaeological research: search for objects of archaeological heritage, definition of their boundaries and layout restoration. Based on the materials of studying medieval settlement Uchkakar (Udmurtia) it was demonstrated that the using the optical, thermal and multispectral survey by landscape, soil and phytoindication features allows to identify areas with characteristic properties – the territory of archaeological sites. It provides the range of promising areas for geophysical studies. Near-surface geophysics allows to achieve more details: to identify the individual objects of layout. Targeted archaeological excavations allow to verify the entire data set obtained from engineering and physical methods. Cross-correlation of the different methods data, the principle of the successive refi nement of information and the ability to analyze archaeological objects from different sides provide a high degree of reliability of the interpretation.
