APPLICATION OF DECELERATING ELECTROSTATIC FIELDS IN PICOSECOND DISSECTOR |

In this work, we have investigated numerically a possibility of using decelerating electrostatic fi elds for focusing electron bunches in the picosecond streak image tube PIF-01 implemented as basic element of a picosecond dissector. A comparative analysis of output spatio-temporal characteristics of the instrument is performed as applied to the cases
when electron bunches are focused in non-homogeneous accelerating and decelerating
fi elds. It is shown that the use of decelerating fi elds allows signifi cant increase in the sweep system sensitivity and ensures generation of electron bunches with an energy being optimal both for immediate recording by means of CCD and for subsequent amplifi cation
with micro-channel plates or secondary electron multipliers. A modifi cation of the PIF-01
design is proposed, which ensures radical increase in the sweep system sensitivity with
maintaining the electron-optical parameters of the instrument.
