Phenomenological model presented for gas exchange in cylinder of internal-combustion engine. It based on the following considerations: 1) intake stroke interpreted as heat exchange at mixing of fresh charge with residual gas in cylinder; 2) exhaust stroke interpreted as adiabatic outflow; 3) gas compression and expansion in cylinder interpreted as adiabatic processes; 4) combustion consideration based on statistical or dynamical method.
