The article considers the specifi cs of using lead-lithium coolant as a coolant for a thermonuclear reactor
blanket as one of the possible tritium-reproducing materials. The most important aspects of the design to
justify the use of lead-lithium eutectic in the creation of a liquid metal cooling circuit of the blanket, as
well as the basic requirements for the coolant, are considered. The problems of interaction of lead-lithium
coolant with structural materials and reduction of magnetic hydrodynamic resistance through the use of
electrically insulating coatings on the walls of tokamak channels are considered in detail. Recommendations are given for reducing local resistances in circuits with a liquid metal coolant. The experimentally
obtained characteristics of heat transfer without a magnetic fi eld in circular channels are shown. The effect of hydrogen purifi cation of a coolant on heat transfer is considered. The directions of further research
are proposed to substantiate the applicability of a lead-lithium coolant for cooling a tokamak blanket.
