DEFLAGRATION-DETONATION TRANSITION AND ACOUSTICS |
L.N. PYATNITSKY
A mechanism of transition from the defl agration to detonation in gases is offered. It is based on refusal from one-dimensional consideration of the process, and on effect of the acoustic waves radiated by the fl ame. In piper, the process has four stages. 1. At the fi rst acceleration, the fl ame acquires cellular structure under the infl uence of the acoustic waves. 2. The second acceleration is caused by the fl ame «leading points» arising due to turbulence development. It results in a powerful shock wave emergence. 3. The wave and
the combustion area form a united complex. 4. Acoustic waves within the complex create few spherical detonation waves which quickly merge. The segment of this wave running forward is called the detonation. The segment moving in opposite direction is usually named as the retonation wave. The rest parts of the spherical detonation travel as transverse
waves which can be interpreted as the spin or pulsing detonation. A mechanism of the spherical detonation formation is offered as well.
Key words: deflagration, detonation, acoustic wave, flame structure, leading point, turbulence.
