PHYSICAL CONDITIONS
FOR THE CREATION OF A
RECOMBINATION LASER USING
THE PLASMA OF THE INITIAL STAGES
OF THE BREAKDOWN OF HIGH
PRESSURE GASES |

Optical pictures of the formation of a high-current discharge in inert gases were investigated.
The mechanisms of the continuous propagation of a plasma streamer (in He at a
bulk energy density ω≤0.3 J/m3-p = 805 Torr, d = 0.01 m, and in Ar at a bulk energy density
ω≤0.048 J/m3-p = 800 Torr, d = 0.01 m) and the pulsating brightness of the streamer
propagation in an external strong magnetic fi eld with velocities υ ~ υ~105 m/s, and
υ ~ 106 m/s. It is shown that the process of formation of the streamer and the development
of the spark channel is affected by an external strong magnetic fi eld of intensity up to
32·106 A/m, which accelerates the development of streamer stages of breakdown and reduces
the expansion rates of the channel, with a corresponding decrease in the integrated,
radiated energy. Spectral measurements have shown that an increase in the temperature
and electron concentration of the spark channel is observed in a magnetic fi eld. It should
be specially noted that the appearance of new spectral lines in an external strong magnetic
fi eld. The paper discusses the possibility of creating a laser on an intensively recombining
plasma at the initial stage of breakdown of high-pressure gases.
