LIFSHITZ TYPE PHASE TRANSITION BETWEEN I AND II TYPES OF WEYL SEMIMETAL IN CROSSED ELECTRIC AND MAGNETIC FIELDS |

The electron spectrum of an anisotropic Weyl semimetal (WS) is calculated in crossed magnetic and electric fi elds. It is shown that the electric fi eld leads to a cardinal rearrangement of the Landau bands. At a certain value of the electric fi eld, a complete collapse of the Landau levels occurs, but the motion along the magnetic fi eld does not vanish, in contrast to the isotropic case. An analytical expression for the density of states is obtained. A new phase transition is predicted between the phases of type I and type II WS induced by an electric fi eld. With the value of the electric fi eld corresponding to such a transition, the density of states has a singularity, as it should be for phase transitions of the Lifshitz type.
