FORMATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF INDEPENDENT PULSED DISCHARGE IN ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE HELIUM |

The results of experimental and numerical studies of the features of ionization fronts formation and development for the initial stages of breakdown are presented, as well as the results of an analysis of the physical processes that cause the instability of a volume discharge in atmospheric pressure helium in short intervals (d = 1 cm), with a discharge
area s = 12 cm2 at voltages from the statistical breakdown (Ust = 3 kV at d = 1 cm, p = 1 atm) up to hundreds of percent overvoltages (up to 25 kV). The investigations were carried out in a pre-ionized gaseous medium with a preionization electron concentration n0 ~ 108 cm–3.
