Design of Cost Effective, Current Efficient CMOS Ultra Low Dropout Regulator with Remote Load Sense |

The emerging market demands over the low dropout(LDO) linear voltage regulator who has electrical performance of lower dropout, low ground current, higher load current capacity, and remote load regulation function for flexibility in designing printed circuit board have been forced to launch lower dropout voltage regulators into the market, and to reduce the operating cost of the electronic instrument in the viewpoint of low voltage operation and power conversion efficiency, and furthermore, also to reduce the manufacturing cost of linear regulator due to the market trends of cost reduction, even though the functions and performances have been improved. To keep up with the market trend, this paper presents an ultra low dropout regulator which shows very low dropout characteristics even at the high output load current, low quiescent current, chip enable function for sleep mode, and remote load sense characteristics for enhanced regulation with reduced die occupation and process step for manufacturing cost reduction, without sacrificing any performance parameters.
