Stability of free and bounded swirling flows with recirculation zones |

The problem of the motion of a swirling viscous incompressible flow in an axisymmetric channel and in an unbounded medium is investigated numerically on the basis of the complete Navier-Stokes equations. Various flow regimes including those with formation of recirculation zones are detected. The stability of the obtained swirling flows is considered on the assumption of local parallelism. The amplification coefficients and the phase velocities of unstable perturbations are calculated. The maximum amplification coefficients are essentially increased for the flows with recirculation zones.
